Application process

If you are seeking a skills assessment for migration purposes, you will need to create an account to access the skills assessment portal and submit the online form.

A lodged application must be decision-ready, an application with missing documents will be assigned a ‘not suitable’ outcome. You are entitled to appeal, however, there is a fee and additional processing time.

Holiday closure
We will be closed from 25 December 2023 to 1 January 2024 inclusive. We will continue to accept online applications during this break however, the processing of all applications (new and pending) will pause until our re-opening.
Skills assessment applications lodged between 15 December 2023 and 31 January 2024 may experience a service delay.
All email enquiries will be responded to from 8 January 2024.

Skills assessment portal

The skills assessment portal is where you will manage your skills assessment. Through the portal you can:

  • Upload your assessment application documents.
  • Fill the online form, pay the fee and submit your application.

You will receive an email when an assessing officer makes a change to the status of your application, including when your outcome is ready.

Online form

Please do not use capslock/all capitals when completing the online form.

If you are applying for a skills assessment under the general skilled migration program, select ‘Submit a new skills assessment’.

Fees

Payment is made at the time of submission (via Mastercard or Visa)

Skill assessment fee: $180

Timeframe

The processing time for general skills assessment applications is approximately 7 days.

Please note: this is an approximate timeframe only. Applications can take longer if, for example, documents are missing from an application, or there are complications verifying documents or contacting referees/employers. Please ensure that your application is decision-ready, with no documents missing, and that all contact details provided in your application are current.

Fast-tracking

Our fast-tracking service has been suspended until further notice. We are currently experiencing a very high volume of applications. We know fast-tracking is a popular option and we will reinstate it as soon as possible.

Communicating with the assessment team

Assessment officers are not available via phone. If you need to update your contact details, email assessment@skillevaluationcenter.org

Please note:

✔ Assessment team is only available via email
✔ Email response time is 24 hours
✖ Emails requesting pre-assessment advice will not receive a response. (e.g. I am I eligible?)
✖ Emails requesting status updates will not receive a response.
✖ Emails requesting published information will not receive a response (e.g. What is the fee?)

These policies are in place to ensure the assessment team can focus on processing applications.

Appeals and reviews

If your skills assessment outcome is unsuccessful, you have the opportunity to request a review or an appeal. There are two options available:

  1. If you disagree with your unsuccessful skills assessment outcome, you can ask for a review of the decision.
  2. If you believe the review decision is incorrect, you may appeal the decision.
